7 clever tricks that will make your iPhone or iPad better

Most iPhone and iPad users know that their gadgets will recharge about 25 percent faster if they put them in Airplane Mode and plug them into a wall outlet. But many don’t know the simple way to snap a photo: From the lock screen, swipe up on the camera icon in the lower right-hand corner, and the camera is ready to take the shot.
That’s the thing about gadgets. You need to play around to learn how to truly use them and to personalize them to your liking. Here are seven clever settings that will make using your iPhone or iPad more enjoyable.
1. Make text bigger and bolder
Despite the iPhone’s large screen size and the iPad's larger displays, it's not always easy to read the tiny print on websites and menus. Fortunately, you can make your Apple display easier to read.

If you'd like to make your text bigger, and bolder, go to Settings >> General >> Accessibility.
To bold the text, tap on the Bold Text button.
To make the text bigger, tap Larger Text >> Larger Accessibility Sizes and move the slider to adjust the size of the font.
2. Zoom in for bigger text
There's another trick for making text bigger. Go to Settings >> General >> Accessibility, and turn on Zoom.
Use three fingers to double tap on the screen to zoom in and out of applications like Mail, Safari and your Home and Lock screens. Try it with other apps, too. Do this in Instagram, for example, to zoom in on a photo.
By the way, to zoom in while watching videos, just pinch in and out with two fingers, like you do with photos.
3. Keyboard alternatives
If you'd prefer to use a standard keyboard rather than type directly onto your touch screen, Apple lets you use keyboards made by other companies or by third-party providers, as long as you're using iOS 9.3.2. Go to Settings >> General >> Keyboard >> Keyboards >> Add a New Keyboard.
4. Add button shapes
Another handy feature is Button Shapes. To enable them, go to Settings >> General >> Accessibility, and turn on Button Shapes. This setting will add outlines and shapes to an app’s buttons so you have a better idea of exactly where to press.
5. Enable captioning
Closed captioning is extremely useful if you're hard of hearing, or if you want to enjoy a show or movie while everyone else is trying to sleep.
Captioning, or Subtitles, is available on most Apple devices using iOS 9.3.2. It's easy to set up. Go to Settings >> General >> Accessibility, and turn on Subtitles & Captioning. You can also customize the caption's font, size, type and color.
6. Have your gadget read to you
VoiceOver reads the words on your Apple device out loud. It will read each letter as you're typing a text or email. It will tell you which app button you're touching, who's calling you, how much battery life is left, and more.
VoiceOver will also read directions to you in maps, have your camera tell you how many people are in your shot and get spoken photo descriptions. You can write notes and letters on the screen and have VoiceOver translate your messages into text for email and other apps.
To turn it on, go to Settings >> General >> Accessibility, and turn on VoiceOver. You have the option to practice with VoiceOver, including setting a speaking rate. Once enabled, to use VoiceOver from your iOS device, press the Home button three times.
7. Get better alerts
Do you miss calls or texts? There are ways to get your attention, especially if you have trouble hearing.
Try using your iPhone's LED light to alert you. To set up LED flashing lights, go to Settings >> General >> Accessibility, and turn on LED Flash for Alerts.
There's another way to get alerts: You can set custom vibrations for incoming calls and messages. It’s actually quite clever.
Go to Settings >> Sounds >> Ringtone >> Vibration. Or from your contacts list, press Edit and select the Vibration option for each of your contacts. This way, even if your phone is muted for calls, you can know who is calling by the contact’s vibration pattern.

We kick things off with the latest iPhone 7 leaks, including reports of a new darker “Space Black” iPhone color option arriving with the next-generation iPhone this fall. Those reports, including one of our own, were followed up by a number of mockups from the community imagining what the new color might look like.
We questioned what Apple might do with the branding for this year’s iPhones as reports emerged that this year’s device could be a minor upgrade as Apple moves to a three-year refresh cycle for major hardware updates. One questionable report out of China this week claimed iPhone 7/Plus/Pro lines were being planned with 64/128/256GB storage tiers following a similar leak on pricing and modelslast week.
There was also a new report corroborating previous claims that the iPhone 7 will sport a new Force Touch Home button of sorts, while the latest round of leaked iPhone 7 photos claimed to show new (larger) cameras for both 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch models.

Fake iPhone 7 Launched In China Before Official Release

Chinese “iPhone 7 manufacturers” do like to have a bit of fun at Apple’s expense on occasion. To suggest that any of the makers of these phones that predate actual releases by Apple and others actually think they are fooling anyone would be folly. While this picture of an iPhone 7 “Designed By Taiwan” and “Made In China” does look good, and does feature a dual-lens camera, at the end of the day it’s running Android and surely isn’t trying to wear iPhone 7 clothes.

Some ridiculous ambitions, rumors and nonsense for this iPhone 7

When you spend as much time as I do covering ridiculous rumors, reasonable speculation about what to expect from the tight-lipped Apple ahead of a formal unveiling of a new product, these reports are actually quite fun. While Apple hasn’t, you knew they wouldn’t, actually confirmed that their was and iPhone 7 set to be introduced this company just went straight ahead and made one anyways. The picture came from iPhone leakster Sonny Dickson and the photo does show a very sexy device months ahead of any release from Apple.
The, very much fake, iPhone 7 is replete with a pink-gold metal case that even sports the Apple logo in addition to boasting a backside dual-lens camera that Apple is expected to announce in September either under the iPhone 7 Plus or iPhone 7 Pro name, or potentially both.
And again, it’s clearly not going to fool anyone but the most gullible as it runs Android Lollipop, and we all know that Apple phone have always run some version of iOS and that is unlikely to change anytime in the near future.
While Google is happy to license Android to a bevy of producers of Android phones that make up over 80% of the market, Apple swings the exact opposite way and will never open up iOS or run Android. Perhaps, “never say never” should be embraced but foreseeable future or even my lifetime feels a pretty safe bet.
It must be fun for these handset makers where they risk no lawsuits, or jail time by producing these obvious bogus contraptions.

iPhone 7 isn’t expected to impress

Outside of the Apple Watch, the Cupertino, CA-based company hasn’t released a new product since the death of former CEO Steve Jobs, but rather it has simply discontinued certain products while merely upgrading existing products. This, could of course, change at any given time but its not quite time according to most experts. It’s likely Apple will skip right ahead to the iPhone 8 next year and that is largely expected to be a game changer, but few have high hopes for the iPhone 7 that isn’t expected to offer much more than the iPhone 6S.
Many are, however, calling for Apple to introduce a Siri-based stand-alone speaker sometime next year to compete with Amazon’s Echo and Tap that use Alexa, and Google’s announced but not released Google Home speaker that will run Google Now.
The iPhone 7 “clone” that we were speaking to earlier, does have an 3.5 mm headphone jack that experts are split down the middle as to whether we will see it with the iPhone 7.
And, of course, we’ll have to wait to see if the iPhone 7 has a dual-lens camera, but the pictures brightened my day a bit and I do appreciate “Taiwan’s” efforts.

iPhone 7 rumors and news leaks

Enjoying the feel of that sparkly new rose gold iPhone 6S in your hand, and the joy of 3D Touch? We don’t want to spoil that love affair, but Apple’s already working on the iPhone 7 — and rumors about it are beginning to heat up.
Here’s what we think we know about Apple’s next major smartphone release so far.

Here’s what we think we know about Apple’s next major smartphone release so far.

Touch ID is no longer a button, and 3D Touch rumors

The iPhone’s home button is iconic, but it may disappear on the iPhone 7. Analysts at Cowen and Company hinted that the home button may not actually be a button anymore, but rather a flat surface that unlocks the screen with Force Touch tech and your fingerprint. An earlier report from 9to5Mac stated that the flat home button will offer haptic feedback to simulate the feeling of having touched a button.
set’s surrounding glass and “cannot be pressed in.” Rumor has it that the capacitive home button will support tap-based app shortcuts and gestures for summoning Siri and pulling up a list of running apps, among other functions.
Other reports reveal that 3D Touch will become more useful on the iPhone 7, which makes sense, given its heavy integration intoiOS 10. A December 2015 report from Ming-Chi Kuo said that 3D Touch will still feature prominently in the new iPhone — and so far, Kuo believes the tech will work the same way on the iPhone 7 as on the 6S. Earlier reports teased the possibility of multi-3D Touch, but it’s unclear if it will arrive on this year’s iPhone.

A report from inside China suggested that five iPhones were being tested, each with one particular feature of interest. Those features include wireless charging, fingerprint recognition on the display, multi Force Touch, dual-cameras, and a USB Type-C connector. Previous patents have suggested Apple is working on wireless charging and fingerprint recognition technology on the display, though the patent for wireless charging was filed three years ago.
If the new iPhone comes with any of those technologies, it’ll be sure to be popular.

New design with key changes

If Apple follows its own Digital Trends, the iPhone 7 should come with an entirely new design. So far, rumors indicate that the next iPhone will be water resistant, feature liquid metal, and eliminate antenna lines. There are also rumors that it could sport a smart connector, and do away with the headphone port.
Now it seems that at least the lack of a headphone jack may be true. The Wall Street Journal said in mid June that although the iPhone 7 won’t bring huge changes, it will do away with the headphone jack to slim the phone down and increase water resistance.
