Apple could keep the 3.5mm headphone port on the iPhone 7 after all, according to the latest reports.
Contrary to consistent rumours that the next iPhone will only have a Lightning port, leaked images of alleged iPhone 7 components reveal that it will have a headphone jack, Engadget reports.
Removing the 3.5mm headphone jack would allow Apple to make the iPhone 7 one millimetre slimmer than the iPhone 6S.
The anticipated move has been somewhat controversial. Instead of a dedicated headphone port, the iPhone 7 would use the Lightning port or Bluetooth for audio output. This means external headphone manufacturers would need to make new products compatible with the Lightning port, which users would then have to buy.
The company would presumably include new wireless headphones with the handset, or a pair of headphones that connect to the phone through a lightning connector. Given Apple's ownership of Beats, this shouldn't prove too much of a problem.
If the images from Rock Fix, a repair shop in Ganzhou, China, are correct, the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 will maintain the headphone jack, as well as having a slot for a second SIM card. It could also dual-lens camera and an updated antenna conpatible with Intel's modem for the GSM models.
The leaked pictures show that the iPhone 7 could come in a bigger size than the current models, with a 256GB version of the phone.
